1998 SLK 230. Hydraulic fluid is leaking inside the cabin, passenger side, top will not go down. With the fob I hear the lock mechanism moving inside the trunk but will not open , the physical key will turn left and right , I hear the lock moving but will not open . Any ideas on what's happening. I think the trunk thinks the roof is in motion and a fail safe is preventing it to open. Will disconnecting the battery for a few minutes reset it? Thank you.

gonna have to close the roof manually: as the process has already started to open the roof, the trunk lid has already released at the front (when lowering the roof) and is fixed to rotate at the rear. But when you try to open it cannot rotate at front because it's mid-operation.

Well, on a one-off, post 14 WAS ok as a 'stand on it's own' BUT because it's part of a larger problem already posted, it's being moved to the already started thread.

the hydraulic system cannot function fully when there is a leak. the night the leak, the less function. "trunk won't latch when manually closing" is a common post here.

When you say the latches in the trunk won't lock do you mean the two seatbelt like latches on each side? I assume your rear windows are not functioning? You need to loosen the pressure relief valve on the pump. Try and reach down in the side wells and pull up on each of the two cylinders under the latches to force it to lock.
