Hello Slkers ,i am Dimitris and this year i had spare time to work on my r170.This time i would be upgrading to Bose sound speakers .I bought them back in 2019 and they were waiting all these years in the carton box .I installed all 4 of them but i connected only the front ones to my becker porsche cdr21 4ohm head unit .Oh boy, what a difference in the sound quality .I would say all slkers should upgrade to bose optional speakers. The followong days i will also connect the rear omes and report again .Oh boy,a new slk era begins.

My father bought this car new back in 1999 and actually it was my first car since 2000 and the OEM speakers were rather limited .If only i had these bose back to the 2000s,the Nick Cave and the Dire straits era.I can find the cds but i cannot find the ex girlfriend to do it right, i can find Depeche Mode but i cannot find my 18 year old youth or maybe can i?I am super excited as you can guess.

Today i installed the rear bose to my becker cdr21 headunit.Well,it was a disapointment but i left the carpet linen to cover the speakers Tomorrow i will cut the carpet to install some mesh covers and report back.
The front ones are perfect ,the rear ones a real disapointment .I know they are the woofer type of speakers and i shall install come crossover filters.

Well, eventually there are no cheap 2ohm car crossovers let alone their effectiveness and i ordered a kenwood compact amp which can do all i need for a perfect upgrade over the bose origonal amp.I intend to install it behind the ash tray and report back.

My SLK32 AMG came with the Bose system and Audio 10 head unit as standard. Which is fine, but not a massive improvement over the system (which didn't have rear speakers) in my previous SLK320.

The real disappointment with the Bose system is that there's no front/rear fader available on the Audio 10. From 1980 to 2002, all my other cars (2 x VW Scirocco, Opel Manta, Opel Manta GT/E, 2 x Honda Prelude) all had L/R balance AND F/R fader controls, but not in the SLK. It would be an unearthly faff to try and fit something with the Bose amp and speaker set up too!

I also have an 1999 SLK 200 dreamt since year 1999 but only recently purchased. I also have the Bose speakers in my garage, waiting to be installed. I have an aftermarket unit, which I intend to replace with the OEM. Do you have any advice on which unit should I buy and also what should I consider while replacingl?

Thanks A LOT!
