230 Compressor on 320?

Just wondering if I'd be able to take a standard 320 and mount a 230 compressor to it, making it an AMG 32 motor. Then, the next question would be, do I need to replace the ECU to make it function after swapping the 2.3 with the compressored 3.2.

I'm considering buying a 320 cheap and applying the mods to my 230.

I understand there's more to an AMG32 engine then just the compressor. I'm just wondering if the compressor from a 2.3 will mount to a 3.2. This is more a tinkering endeavor than anything else.

The volume (CFM) of the 230 compressor would very undersized and of little use on the 320.
Yes, it would discombobulate the ECU in the 320.

The SLK32 supercharger is a much larger unit in size and CFM, and can deliver 1 bar or more into the 3.2L engine.
The '32 engine is also strengthened in almost every way, forged components, increased oil pump flow, and has a specific ECU to control it all.

The 320 can be tuned, and would respond well to headers and cams. But these items would be hard to find or totally custom parts making it an expensive endeavor. It would be less expensive to just buy an SLK32.

Happy top down spirited motoring.

Thanks for the info. There's a guy here in Amarillo selling a 2005 320 with 115k. I need some cosmetic parts and thought if it was doable I'd add a spare 230 compressor to the 3.2. But, it sounds like it wouldn't produce what I'd like. So, I think I'll pass. But I still need some cosmetic parts. So, my search continues.

Kleeman did a s/charger kit inc. ECU etc. for the stock M112 but good luck in finding one - NLA 🙃

Dunno about trying to fit a 4pot 'charger to an M112 but the general accepted route to more power at a relative low cost if you visit a breakers yard, is to:

1. Sort out the breathing, a bigger airbox and intake pipes are essential - C320, S320, ML320 etc. (M113 airboxes are same body but you'll want an M112 nose for aesthetics) or visit Needswings for a DCAI
2. Find a M113 throttle body, MAF housing and Elbow
3. ECU Tune
4. TCU Tune

optional..
M113 injectors
M113 fuel pump
Wilder Cams
Exhaust Headers

I'm just toying around with doing something to it for fun. I hate to just get rid of it since it's 1 of 26 (US) Designo Coppers. Though, I know that number is even less know. Especially since I totalled my first one in 2015. And mine is really a one-off since I put all the OEM SLK32 body pieces on. Honestly, I'm actually in the market for an SL55 for a daily driver.

There were a few Designo SLK32s, but I don't remember seeing a copper one.
Such as great color!

The designo colors for SLK32 that have showed up online are the designo silver (pearlescent) and a mocha/mink color. (I forget what that one is called)

I'm going to keep the Designo. But instead of a 32, I've decided to step up into a 2003-2008 SL55.

I get it. I'm a lifelong tinkerer. I throw a lot of things together just to see if it works. This was just one of those instances.

Indeed, the SLK32 is hardly the same car as the 320.
Engine is reinforced in numerous ways, increased lubrication, oil cooler, all forged moving components, bigger injectors, different cams, new ECU, etc.
Transmission modified and new TCU.

The basic pumping volume of the SLK230 supercharger is light for even the M111 2.3L, only producing about 8 lbs of boost.
On the 3.2 L M112, the 230 supercharger won't supply enough volume for boost, it will actually be an air restriction, unless spun way beyond its design limits, which will shorten the life and fail, possibly spectacularly.

Adding the SLK32 supercharger to a 320 is not a good engineering path, even for an experiment.
It will just damage an otherwise good engine.

The best solutions for a SLK320 performance improvement is a tune, and cams, if one can still find a performance shop or specs for 320 cams.
Take the secondary cats out of the exhaust (if not already failed), this will increase a few HP and sound more crisp. Keep the resonator, it will drone badly around 1800 rpm without resonator. (just loud is not good)

HP won't come cheap, but the 320 could be bumped up about 40 HP or so, from 215 to around 250 ish.

Suspension components from an SLK32 could be fitted to the 320 to improve handling.
Springs (factory Eibach), swaybars and front shocks.
If not OEM (Sachs) shocks, use Bilstein B6 front and B4 rear to mimic the SLK32 suspension tuning.

Happy top down spirited motoring, in a tuned 320.

Thanks for the added info! It's an idea I won't be pursuing now that I picked up a 2007 SL55 that already has Kleemann headers installed. I have plans for it performance and appearance wise.
