Mercedes M111 Pre Evo Intake Manifolds

I have been meaning to do this for a while and finally got around to it, so any of you that have seen our Turbo Slk 230k will know that we actually use a metal intake manifold on our car.

So in this video I explain why we do that and will continue to do this with every M111 we own, plus the flaws that can occur with the stock plastic intake manifold.

So the earliest 1st generation of the M111 came fitted with a metal aluminium intake manifold which was basic and worked well. The 2nd Generation of the M111 came fitted with a plastic intake manifold that situated the throttle body in the vertical position as apposed to the horizontal position found on the 1st gen. Then the 3rd generation or the M111 known as the "Evo" retained the plastic manifold with the vertical throttle body position, but Mercedes threw a curve ball with this one as they ovaled out the intake ports to make them larger along with many other internal changes to the engine.

So this thread covers only the pre "Evo" engines so pre 2001.

In my experience with the M111 kompressor when we used the Speer overdrive crank pulley both me and Ben ran into an issue. This issue on Ben's occurred on the cylinder 4 runner and on my car it was cylinder 3 runner, this issue was the seem of the intake manifold coming apart. This meant a small vacuum leak at idle and a boost leak when under boost, it took us a long time spraying brake cleaner to find this issue. But once we found it upon revving the engine up you could actually see the runner seperate under boost. This meant we no longer trusted that manifold and set about looking at our options, of which we came across a earlier 1st gen intake manifold from a W202 C180 it was £30 so needless to say we bought that and tried it we got the correct gasket to fit it and adapted our intake pipes. It worked great as it should and since that day we have converted all of our M111 manifolds to the earlier 1st generation metal manifolds.

Please watch the video as there is a lot of important information I haven't written here if you haven't watched it already.

Thanks for watching and reading I hope it helps you guys. 😃
