Crank or sc pully upgrade?

Wonder what is the best to do?

A crank pully even gives everything else a higher speed.

A sc pully only gives the sc higher speed.

Only thing i can see is good with crank is that you will still have the magnetic clutch on sc.

But that clutch i can live without. Running now with a welded clutch.

Thanks @Avel Du

Pulley wise ide say crank pulley, the issues that changing the supercharger pulley cause aren't really worth the gain, people do make it work but it does take a lot of time and money to make it work. Again the issues are not the engine all the issues are caused by the ECU causing boost cut and many issues like that. On manual cars it's not too difficult to go standalone ECU but you do need to retain the stock ECU for certain features.

It depends what you want from the car, even with pulleys the car won't feel hugely different due to the ECU limitations. This is why I say a Speer crank pulley will do the job but upgrade to a 4bar vw fuel pressure regulator and Bosch FR5DC spark plugs or equivalent, a M5? MAF will help all of these along with intercooler and cold air feed.

Is this the fuel regulator?
A part number is the best way for me to schearch.

And then it will be a speer crank pully.

Huge Thx for helping me understand.

Hey buddy !
I agree with Alex, crank pulley is way more convenient for numerous reasons :
  • Easier installation (about 15-20 minutes) and easy access, just remove the fan and you're good
  • Need only a few basic tools
  • No electronic job, with a SC pulley you will have to deal with the clutch pulley
  • Can be easily removed if you sell the car and the buyer doesn't want pulley upgrade
  • Speer pulley come with complete kit (pulley + belt), so no tricks to find accurate belt lenght
  • Currently, crank pulley is cheaper than SC
If you have boost issue at WOT (I had) you can try the zenner clamp or an M5 E39 maf, I have a post here where I will relate my journey with M5 maf, 4,5 bar fuel pressure reg and NGK BCPR7ET plugs. As we have exactly the same SLK (same engine, same year), if it works for me you can take it for granted.

This was my 1999 W202 226,000miles and I beat on it every day... The only thing that ever went wrong with it was coil packs. But this car had a Speer pulley, VW 4 bar fuel pressure regulator, M5 MAF and Bosch FR5DC spark plugs. Yes it gets sideways a couple of times in the video it had a rare mechanically locking rear differential that I can not and have not managed to find since this car, I had the unicorn of diffs and at the time did not know it!
