New Hardware to Old Software

Today I got my "used" key:

I had a second hand key, from a seller on the bay saved in my "watch list" like 3-4 years now. And last week I got offer 20%off. Don't jump for joy 8.something to 7.something ;)
The key on left arrived today. Same part number, with 2 batteries and...well it is cleaner than I expected!
It actually works, like pressing them buttons it works.
Now the blade ain't the same - I have 2 shells for 5£ from the bay (like 2 years ago) that were cut for 20£ so I can unlock DaDude and the steering will work. Now i have electronics that (as per the feedback from the light) send signals.
And the Q, how long will it take to:
  • Have a good weather to try syncing the CL
  • Extend power supply on the street to see what the DAS will show
- Find time to experiment (I know DAS is unique on 96-00) if the "new hardware" will be added to the OLD software.

By default answer is NO way, just something is bugging me to try!
Suggestions are welcomed?

Not before today, but i have seen them details. The 24 keys mentioned are DAS 3 if not wrong. InfraRed is not what I have as mine is RadioFrequency (DAS2) and the red led is just indicator-feedback. The adding "new" key in the eeeeeeeeprom, requires removing the DAS and sending it to...brittle plastics and potentially lost/damaged package...not willing to risk it.
On the DAS screen (as per the sds) I have seen 3 or 4 keys (can't recall now) written out of 8. And I know I have space to write another 4-5, "if and maybe" are what I don't know. And i have been to few key cutters (people who start with I can do it but I can't guarantee are nothing else if you ask me) who are saying it like I can "clone" your transponder chip, but not sure if it going to work.
So adding the above specifics I am not sure I am willing to subsidize experiments.

Summary from yesterday!
  • original key on the right side (pic above) unlock, start, etc is called KeY1
  • the one next to it has electronic board that flashes the red LED when button pressed and is called KeYZ
  • last night the electronic board from KeYZ, was moved to a shell that has a cut blade and can be used in the door, boot ignition - just to unlock the steering and activate the radio, while I work on the car and called Shell1
  • KeYZ is not “assembled” but just “closed” so the blade, chip, spring, button, etc. are inside and not lost.

Today, with the KeY1 and Shell1 I followed this:
Electronic device Technology Gadget Plastic Communication Device
Technology Screenshot Software

As shared by @M4rCu5 here:
And obviously confirmed for ‘98 as per the manual I got with DaDude, 3 comments under - same link above:
Font Number Screenshot Software

Knowing it is same procedure for both editions I tried to cheat the system.

Now the disappointing bit - Tried - unsuccessful I must say!
Will try again tomorrow as I was having the steering fluid as a task today.
The KeYZ has been on the table, not near DaDude!

Thinking to try this:
Text Font Number Paper Document

Even though it is not for SLK.

Tried all of them more than once.
Open door in between close the door, using the KeY1 lock unlock function with open door like it should - nada!
Machine vs Human
1:0
Just another day in paradise!
When closing the passenger door - as was raining and saw a drop, the metal L-shaped glass stopper dropped again!
So the result is:
2:0

Yes I have!
In fact i am getting ready to do so:
Metalworking hand tool Pliers Hand tool Tool Diagonal pliers
;)

As it looks the synchronization was not so straight forward even with the keys having same part number.
I really didn't want to do it, but somewhere in the www space I read about functionality and PCB, and that pushed me to open and compare both PCBs.

Before getting in details, I opened the KeY1 and the transponder chip fell, so I swapped the "location" of it, into the Shell1. Boy was that a pain in the... lower end! The designated "bed" for the small transponder was not well made and the plastic retainer that was supposed to keep it there was not able to "lay down" so cutting and... annoying as hell. After I finished the assembly of Shell1 and the transponder from Key1 went to test it!
Both methods - shared on the pics above.
both unsuccessful!
Machine Wins:
3:0

Locked the passenger door from inside, the boot and the drivers door with the blade. And before assembly of original KeY1 to default state I took some pics!

SO:
Plastic Tool Carbon fibers Strap
Strap Cameras & optics Camera Leather Gadget
Electronic component Circuit Component Hardware Programmer Passive Circuit Component Microcontroller
guts of the KeYZ, with a very small stamped number 1 in the top right corner! Just the cover of the battery, not a big difference - right?

And the KeY1 next:
Electronic component Hardware Programmer Circuit Component Technology Electronics
same small number 2- no big deal, right?
Looking at the PCBs, well i was good at find them 10 differences back in the days, just now I find it pointless.
Picture showing both boards with 400 and 148 have different layouts - small resistor/capacitor on the bottom next to the Power Supply pin plus extra 6leg "chip" on the right of the unlock button on one side and different PCB numbers on the other!

That in my eyes is the same key for different machine - not SLK - but same 96-04 period let's say.

Bottom line, if it is too good to be true - it is not!
In less rainy days I might try the SDS and the DAS menu, if I can add the Phillips chip to the authorised list, but keeping in mind the long to-do lists...who knows.

Still open to suggestions if and HOW on the SDS possibilities to "accommodate" new transponder made by Phillips. Back in the days!

As I combined them activities few screens from today. They are self explanatory if you ask me but anyway:
Electronic device Office Equipment Display device Computer Font
Electronic device Display device Office Equipment Gadget Font

Das details/\ and what I can "alter"
Electronic device Office Equipment Display device Gadget Technology
Gauge Speedometer Measuring instrument Tachometer Odometer

That is some next level surprise! But after i saw it I raised the bonnet and touched the "filter box" was xxxxxxxxxxx hot. I should have used the IR thermometer but...
Electronic device Office Equipment Display device Technology Laptop
Electronic device Office Equipment Technology Number Display device
Electronic device Display device Gadget Office Equipment Technology
Electronic device Display device Office Equipment Gadget Technology
Electronic device Display device Office Equipment Gadget Technology
Electronic device Gadget Display device Office Equipment Technology

As it looks, I can play with the keys IN the memory and write them OFF, but I can not "unlock" the system and write a chip number as ..."key8" let's say. So it is good that I have a transponder chip and extra remote, but...no one cares. May be (not betting my neck on it) with developers mode will look different!
I have some screenshots, but in process of cleaning the last 5 days mess up and...had to take a break...
So back to them chaotically distributed boxes and tools and mess, as it will not sort itself out!

Been to few "shops" none of them is doing new keys, but can add additional transponder into the eeeeprom - removing, digging and...no one said CL will work.

Been to the previous owner last Sunday (as there was a box with the address in the boot) and except I "made him very happy" (and got offer to buy his TT) they (mrs was there too) were not able to help with anything on that foot as they gave the 2 keys back in the days!

Again reading all the links and knowing what @Deplore shared on the mbworld I would say is not impossible, but people refuse to read and think. As is easier to do what they can and carry no responsibility. Like I shared before the method with IR key being "done" on the bench!
