Problem with DAS in Xentry simulation.

I did Google the WEB and searched in this forum, but have not found an answer yet.

I installed Xentry in a 125GB SSD on a Dell Latitude D630 with 4GB Ram, made sure all Drivers are working correctly and then ran a simulation where everything worked fine.

Then the next time I ran a simulation I got to the where you choose the stethoscope and as it starts to go into Diagnostic Assistance System (DAS) I get the Windows error message "....has encountered a problem" "send error report/don't send".

I had the DAS Key available and re-issued the same key and the error still occurs. It is probably something I did, since I have changed hardware, software, and fiddled with the C4 connections etc., however I can't think of what I might have changed that would create this error, I didn't change any files or move any folders.

The error detailed report that will not be sent to Windows is hundreds of pages long and I am not code literate enough to see what the information points to as an error. The header gives a code: 0xc0000005 and Flags: 0x000000006651d092

Can anyone give me some thoughts on how to repair this problem

I agree with i860, but now that the error has occurred, give me some options. Fix this error? Point me to a newer computer with ethernet cable connections? Point me to a way to get Xentry/DAS without spending a couple of hundred dollars again? Point me to an Apple computer that will play with Xentry and the C4 MUX. I am game to try anything and am willing to spend money if need be, but would rather fix this error for now to PLAY with Xentry.

I only want to play with Xentry, I am a Saturday morning Mechanic, a Saturday afternoon computer geek.

The only thing wrong with my 2003 SLK 320 at this point in time is the Brake Light Dashboard indicator telling me that I have LED Bulbs without enough resistance, but I would still like to use Xentry/DAS to see if everything that the program can tell you.

As to "Old system, too many things to go wrong." One of my other cars is a 1929 Model A Ford, one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned and if something does go wrong, I can fixed with gum or bailing wire.

In answer to borris1954 questions.

I had only been using it in simulation mode and had not connected the MUX to the car, just connected the C4 to the computer to see if the D630 recognized the connection. I will hook up the computer/C4/SLK today to see if that makes a difference.

The Version is 16.8.22.

Ok. I understood that the most recent versions didn't really support simulation mode as such and that it was made to sort of work by a few hacks such as batch files that do some file renamings "under your feet" as you use it. I am sure @i860 has a better understanding than I have. However, I would definitely try it on the car for real and see what happens on Quick Test.

I hooked the computer up to the C4 I hooked the C4 up to the OBD connector. The C4 would see the battery when the Information button was pushed and the battery changed voltage when I put a charger on it or started the car.
The computer saw the C4, the signal light will go on when the C4 the test signal is sent from the computer to the C4, but the C4 says device not in use. I tried Xentry and I don't think the program is interacting with the C4 and when I got to DAS the same error comes up. Ignition key off, one and 2 and started. Batteries in the C4, lots of different hookup combinations

I have read most if not all the info about Mercedes Star/DAS, bI have only been playing with it for a few days, I am not familiar enough with Ceaser to see if it will talk to the SLK.

Can some one give me the steps to connecting the devices that will give me the best chance of me not making an error and then I will look at computer settings again.

I have no experience with a C4 as I use the older C3 on my 1997 230 so can't really offer any more advice. Other than it sounds like either a config issue or faulty C4. My C3 has been pretty bullet proof even via a USB to serial port adapter.

For a cheaper alternative for your car why not pick up a clone Tactrix Openport 2.0 pass through device and use a version of Xentry passthrough software. A version of Xentry this way for my 2006 S211 cost me less than £40 (running on an old windows 7 laptop). Also I would say don't be worried to go for latest versions as long as it covers your model and year it will be fine.

Hope that helps.

@i860 is a passthrough device like the Openport 2.0 likely to work on a USA variant 2003 320?

Having offered this as a possible low cost option above I'm now wondering if the OP's car maybe a tad too old.
