Repainting The R170 Interior

When I bought my 1998 230K the interior was unsightly. I knew that I could strip and repaint but the hardest part was waiting the 10 days for the paint to come from Germany. I stripped the paint from the worse of the pieces using Citrusstrip. It worked well but after the fact I found out that by immersing in water would do the same thing. After stripping, I cleaned the parts with 99% alcohol and I still had streaks on the pieces. I sprayed the parts with some primer and used a large cell sponge cut into 1.5" squares to apply the Quartz-Sand paint. After 2 coats my pieces were looking like they did when they came from the factory. I even got the parts back in place without scratching the new paint. I did buy a new main center console as the piece was too far gone crack wise.

Awesome job! That's next on my list along with fixing famous door panels and handles where the glue dries out and they come out. But I'm postponing this until I find time to get my whole interior apart so I don't keep re-assembling it back and forth for other projects I have planned. There's a guy now on Ebay that sells 2-DIN dash trim kit. I've been watching him for like 2 years now and looks like he finally perfected it :geek:
