History
Previous owner bought it in 2010, but was delivered in Jan 2011. Was regularly serviced, although they did not keep all the records to prove it! It was however in a very good mechanical state, so after some friendly haggling I drove it home.
When I bought the SLK the original owner wanted to keep their plates. I went to get new plates for the car, and found it was cheaper to take my old plates off the garage wall and use them instead. So why not. Ideally I'd like 'slimline' plates and maybe sometime in the future I might do that but for now these old plates from 1950 will do. I put the money I saved towards updating the head unit.
Why the R171? I preferred the styling of the front compared to the R170 or R172, plus the R172 has more computers that concern me a little. But mainly the styling. I also wanted the newer R171 due to some of updates that provided over the original R171.
Why the 300? Well, I did want the V6 for the sound (I missed my V6 Commodore) rather than the supercharged 4 cylinder. I would have of course preferred the 350 or 55, but both of those were too powerful to allow my kids to (legally) drive them.
