My dad and his brother in law joined forces to buy this car with the plan to "do it up", but it never really happened. A four speed manual with a 3.5l straight six boasting 120bhp and every single bhp was needed to get all that steel moving to hit 60mph/100kmh in just over 20 seconds. They drove it around for quite a few years, and it was one of the first cars I learned to drive as a kid (still can remember the smell of leather and wood, not to mention the awful brakes and vague steering), but eventually they sold it to someone in a different state. Because the car was leaving Victoria, the number plates remained with us. Around the time they sold the Jag I had bought a non-running MGA. After I got that car into a roadworthy state, I registered it using the old plates.
The plates are physically the original ones from 1950 - not only because they have the "vertical vic" on the left hand side, but also because the surrounding trim is black. They are slightly smaller than the later released 5 digit plates as well that have a white trim.
