I'm in Orange County, CA. Just purchased my first SLK - 2006 SLK 350. Any meetups or rides scheduled for SoCal? Which MB auto service shops would you recommend near Irvine?

Hi. I think setting a meet or a drive would be fantastic! I'd love your help. How many weeks/months should we plan a first meet or drive? For me, My kiddos will be up for two surgeries between now and December. Would Jan or Feb work? Where are you located? I'm in Irvine.

I’m in Sacramento California we have regular meets & drives monthly. SoCal is too far away for me. Just plan a drive and @Durkatlon will help you.

Hey, I'm in San Diego. I would usually post the meet a few weeks in advance, and do a dry-run about a week before by myself to scout the route and make sure there's no unwelcome surprises (detours, sand on the road etc). I also have a big list of SoCal members of this forum (not exhaustive, just what I've collected over the years), and I have special privs on this forum to send private messages to large numbers of people at a time (I hope I still have that priv, haven't tried it in quite a while! :D).
Early next year sounds good to me. I can propose some possible routes to drive or we can make it more of a meet-up to socialize (or a bit of both).

It's been a few years since I lived in Irvine, but I used Fletcher Jones Newport Beach if I wanted the dealer to work on the SLK. If I wanted to avoid the dealer I always used OC Benz 2990 Red Hill Ave Ste B Costa Mesa, CA 92626.

Definitely interested in meet up too. I'm in North San Diego county coast. Have had good luck with the Hoehn MB dealer in Carlsbad, but also heard good things about Fletcher Jones.

I bought many of the parts for all my MB cars from Fletcher Jones. I sometime used their service too. I had a bad experiences with them, I think they scammed me!!. Anyway just want to share the experience: Couple years ago, I dropped off the SLK to them for transmission oil change. When I came picked up the car, the tech showed me the lower water hose disconnected from the radiator and claimed it was broken and need to be replaced. With the car still on their lift, disconnected, no coolant... I had no choice but to let them replaced it (another >$350 on top of transmission service). I work on all my cars, checking, fixing and tighdying everything all the time, so no such thing as loosen hoses!!. Plus, I drove the car 30 mins to the dealer and handed over to them without issue. I knew they scammed me but didnt have any choice. I no longer brought any of my cars to them for service (only buy parts from them)

Hmmm.... that doesn't sound good. I really wish I had my own garage area. I would definitely learn and fix all that I can. I don't like being at the mercy of others.

I have used a few times this independent shop in Fullerton. They seem to be more honest, know their cars, what they are doing. Not the cheapest, but definitely cheaper than dealer. I only used them for heavy, complicated job that beyond my expertise. The Real Mechanic Shop. 2319 W. Commonwealth ave, fullerton 92833

Another terrible experience with their staff/sell department. Couple years ago, my friend, who drove a brand new S550, visited us from San diego. One of his tire was blown (pot hole), so I suggested him to tow the car to Fletcher Jones. As the truck off loading the car to their service department, and waiting for the service advisor ..... we walked around the lot and saw a bunch of new and nice cars ON DISPLAY, including the AMG-GT (just came out at the time). As typical enthusiast, we were all over that AMG-GT. We even opened the doors and check out the interior. Didnt know to us at the time, these were customer cars waiting for service (we didnt know, no indication what so ever, these cars were on display lot!!). Next thing we know, a blonde lady with dealer tag ran out yelling at us! asking who we were, what we tried to do, what were we doing at their dealer!?. Then she opened the door and checked carefully each car to see if we stolen something from them!!. I was shocked and stunted. We pointed to our car still off loading behind and explained the situation. She gave us a dirty and suspicious look like we were thief!! (I was their customer for more than 20 years!).
The next day I came back and complained to the sale manager. He was very politically polited and promised behave like that was unacceptable at that dealer, and ran around "tried" to locate that blonde lady. Minutes later he came back and stated that there was no blonde lady, no body fit my description working at that dealer!!. I knew exactly which department, which room she was from... but realized raising hell not going to change anything. Since then, I never come back to that dealer for service, nor recommand anybody to that dealer. I only buy parts from them if I need to rush the job.

you can definitely replace the tranny mount at home with basic tool. But engine mount best if you have the lift.. the engine mount on this car may require extra parts removal. I had a non-mercedes shop replaced for me for $40 each (labor)... that was couple years ago
