In a thread here, there is a hi-jack going on about what people call their cars. (What else?)

I call my SLK Alice as in SLacK Alice.

Does you car have a name, and is there an interesting story behind that naming?

Kismet (fate)

Kismet has had a significant role in my/our lives. Was blind dated to my wife of 28yrs (married a year to the day we met). Almost quite the RCAF in 88 for an airline job, but was posted to the USN in California and Hawaii (as well as Desert Storm) on short notice - one of the best times of our lives. That was followed by a dreadful tour at National HQ, but that lead to German language training and 3yrs with the Luftwaffe in Hamburg - again ready to quit or kill myself. Screwed up and got promoted and dragged back to Canada to be a CO - so quit and DID go to Air Canada. We love travelling so that was a great decision.

Turned 50 and started looking for a classic sports car. Almost bought a 83 W107 SL380, but the deal got "weird". We reassessed what we wanted in a car/toy...and stumbled on the SLK. This forum was the deciding factor in getting one, in the USA. After literally months of looking for a 350 in silver/red...bingo! OKC... got a great car at a great price. It's now year 3 and have loved every minute.

Licence is SPASS42 - German spass= fun, so fun for two

Mine is called No Name as she couldn't have no name but nothing instantly sprang to mind. Quite odd for me as all my cars are usually named before collection. Does that make sense?

No name. I just call it my SLK.

Of course for an old OCD engineer that probably makes perfect sense. :D

The last time I named a vehicle that I rode on was in 1964. It was a brand new 3 speed bicycle, black, complete with light, springy clamp on the back to hold books, a buzzer horn and streamers from the end of the handle bars. I called the bike "Fast Streak". I was 8 years old then. Haven't named a vehicle since.

Always called my daughter "Sweet Pea" because she's tiny and cute. It just seemed to fit the car, too.

Well...Let's see..

My 05 Mustang - I called it "Xiao Ma" (小马), which means little horse. Although it's not little.

My 05 Crossfire - I called it "Xiao Cha"(小叉),which means little cross.

My 05 Spec V Sentra - I call it "Xiao Hei"(小黑), which means little black thing. It's black.

My 05 SLK 350 - I call it "Xiao Ben"(小笨), which means little stupid thing, the “Ben” part comes from Benz. It's not stupid, and I love this little thing.

Since it's nick name for cars...just name it all "little something"...LOL

Why all 05? I don't know, but seems like all the cars I found that I love or loved are all 05.

Hence..Bella. Well that and she's the most freaking beautiful thing I've ever owned :D

I call mine Princess. It all began with my coworker who called her "triple P" for pretty, pretty princess and I shortened it to simply Princess because it just seemed to fit. I take meticulous care of her so it seems appropriate. She had her A Service yesterday (which my coworker joked included a wipe down with a baby diaper), and though the loaner C300 was quite nice, I was elated to have Princess back this morning. :)

Perhaps more appropriate to a UK car: "right hooker"?

Certainly where all my money is going at the moment.
But hopefully after tomorrow, I'll get cooled off a bit, since teh a/c is due to be serviced!

What do you call your car?

As we have threads on user names, occupations, etc., I thought it might be interesting to have one on why we give our cars the names we do.

So I'll start one up :-

After making a list (an age thing :)), containing names like Red Dragon, Red Devil (for obvious reasons), Sexy Susan (I'm not going into that one :D), Satan's Fire (because it goes like hell when it burns past other cars :burnout:), it finally came to me ....... Mabel !

Not because she's able :), though she undoubtedly is R), but after my first granddaughter (called Mabel funnily enough). The deciding factor was when I realised that Mabel stood for .......

My Absolutely Beautifully Engineered Lady

Perfect.

These are my two Mabels :-
