Hi... i need to reduce the amount of free play in the steering ( to past vehicle inspection in WA, Perth.. the city of endless number of speed humps and puesdo roundabouts.. ggggrrrrr ).. at the moment there is about 25mm free play which i could live with but not good enough for inspectors. ):
I have read a few forums but not much info on access method... from below car looks almost impossible? .. from above not much better.. looks like i have to try to remove a large heat shield somehow?? because it is large and complex shape in a limited space ... and then another smallerexhaust heat shield which would be easier..
just wondering if somebody else has gone down this path....
Thx for any input...

I have to say, you got me off-guard here!
Like seriously I have no idea…

Are these of any help?

Just a follow up........ spent a few hours looking at the loose heat shield n but there is no way to get it out easily... maybe if i removed the exhaust it may have come out but access is tight and i didn't want to risk broken studs after being in place for 27 years... so I used air snips to cut it out.. and will make a new one in two pieces for easy removal.
... my wife says I should have more patience.... lol.

Finally got access to the steering box.. I need to adjust the free play in the steering... I have got the large 19mm lock nut undone but the central stud with the hex allen key hole, is stuck the lock nut. I can't get enough pressure on it in the limited space..
Question... can I unscrew that adjusting stud and nut all the way out of the box to separate them on the bench...
Thanks for any advice.

Can't help you on that part but lift the front wheels off the ground and that will take pressure off what you are doing. Might help you.
