Kompressor Scatter Shield

Hey all! At one time, there was someone who was making scatter shields for our kompressor pulleys. I connected with someone here who had stated they sold the "plans" to someone and that person seemingly has done nothing with it.
Does anyone know of a source for a scatter shield for an M112K?

Thanks!

There is currently no mass-produced, bolt-on transmission scatter shield specifically designed for the Mercedes-Benz M112K (the supercharged V6 found in cars like the SLK32 AMG or C32 AMG). Unlike high-volume platforms like the Honda K-Series, specific engine-to-transmission safety shields are not readily available in the aftermarket for this Mercedes powertrain.

1. SFI-Approved Transmission Blankets
If you cannot find a custom-fit steel shield, the most common solution is a universal SFI-approved transmission blanket. These are made from ballistic nylon or Kevlar and are designed to wrap around the transmission tunnel.

Retailers: Sites like JEGS and Summit Racing carry universal blankets from brands like TCI, Stroud, and Allstar Performance.
  • Suitability: These are generally easier to fit into the tight transmission tunnels of Mercedes chassis than a rigid steel plate.

2. Custom Fabrication
For a dedicated steel shield that meets NHRA/IHRA regulations, you may need to have one custom-made.
  • NHRA Regulations: Regulations require a flywheel shield made of at least 1/4-inch minimum thickness steel plate.
  • Design: It must surround the bellhousing completely (except for areas near the axle/differential). Some fabricators use two-piece designs to make transmission or clutch swaps easier.
  • Consult Specialist Fabricators: Shops like Brutal Speed and Tuning offer custom fabrication services for safety components.

Component Clarification
Ensure you are searching for the correct type of "shield":
  • Transmission/Clutch Shield: Protects from internal gearbox or flywheel failure.
  • Pulley Shield: Often confused with "scatter shields" in the Mercedes community, brands like Precision Works make shields specifically for the supercharger pulley on M113K engines (and potentially M112K) to prevent belt/pulley shrapnel from damaging the hood or engine bay if the pulley fail

Well, I found a post on the CF forum from 10 years ago that gave an email to a guy in California who made those for the 112K then shifted to the 113K.

You might try emaiing him (IF it's stiil active) and see if he has any, whatever

I created these supercharger pulley scattershields (first the M113k version, then the M112k version) about 10 years ago. I sold several hundred, then PLM started selling cheap knockoffs (under the name "Precision Works" ) of my M113k shields and at the time, it seemed inevitable that they or someone else would start making cheap copies of my M112k shields ... so I stopped making both (I have too many things going on to waste time trying to compete with companies using cheap labor and materials). However, no one ever did copy the MN112k shield .... and just recently, I have reached out to a friend who is still very active in the crossfire community about taking over (restarting) this product and he seems interested.

I do still make/sell the paddle shifter kit that works nicely on your SLK32 ...

Cheers,
Chris
