Hello all,
New to these forums and forum life in general. Heard great things about the support of this group so figured "heck let's try"
I bought an '05 SLK 55 AMG a few weeks ago from an exotic car dealership. I knew a 21 year old performance car would likely have current issues but never figured id be in the frustrating pickle I am in.
Long story short, car is currently throwing a C1000 code stating 'Control Unit N47 -5(ESP And BAS Control Module) Is Defective". Of course, this shows additional codes for other modules, but they all almost point to the ESP module.
This error occurs randomly after clearing. So far, I have replaced the battery with an AGM one, changed some burnt out fuses, and removed the ESP module and gave it a proper cleaning (it wasnt very dirty). None of this has solved it.
I read two posts about this issue here already. It seems the move is to swap some coils and harnesses but it doesnt seem to fix it permanently for many folks here. My question is...
How likely is it that the ESP module itself has become faulty? I wonder if the circuit board, perhaps old soldering, is to blame?
Before I spend $400 to a module rebuild shop, I figured id ask what others here thought about this theory.
