This summers second road trip went to Furka Pass in Switzerland. I'm all into those curvy mountain roads, snow top hills and enjoying my SLK fullest.

Day 1:
There is basically three ways to get into main Europe from Finland by car. Drive thru Baltic countries witch is quite boring. Drive thru Sweden and Denmark witch is fastest and most fun, but my gf didn't want to take that because of current epidemic situation. The third option is the most expencive and slowest, Helsinki - Travemunde ferry. 30 hour boat trip.

Lineing up in waiting queue. There weren't many other cars. I would say only 25 cars.

Here we go.

Night sky

After 6-7 hours I'm full of this boat trip. Still 20ish something to go.

Day 2: Part one.

New day starts with a good breakfast. One good thing with these long boat trips are that food is excellent and if you have choosen full package (like I did) you can eat as much as you want.

Only covid thing was that you have to use cloves when take food from buffet. Other than that its normal.

Day went slowly hour after hour. I tried to sleep as much as possible because we had a long night on the road ahead.

Finally! 10:30pm German time we got out of boat and hit the autobahns.

The intention was to drive through the night towards Switzerland (1000km / 620mls ), where the hotel would be available at 3pm the next day. Sounds good?

Once in a while we had to stop for gas and fast food. Face masks on.

After 460km (286mls) I just had to stop for short nap. Quite acrobatic in SLK.

Day 2: Part two.

Then I got the royal idea. I bought a can of RedBull from near by gas station. I mean real RedBull, not coke like here some gang bangers like to call it. Immediately I was woke and ready to drive fast. Incredible stuff for someone who doesn't drink it at all. Absolutely illegal.

Morning syat to rise

Small trafic jams...

After couple of hours power of RedBull fade away and I needed once again shot brake. The rising morning sun was warm enought that could take a quick sleep at bench.

On the road again.

Close to France border.

This time I even bought a road tax Vinget. It was expensive by the way, 40€! It became quite necessary because the police stopped us immediately after crossing the border. Routine inspection because of my small type plates. They are quite unseen in middle of Europe. Everything was fine and the journey continued.

Roads in Switzerland are so smooth. It was pleasure to drive those.

When we arrived at the hotel, we threw our stuff into the room and moved on to a slightly better fast food restaurant called Marche next door. I was so tired and numb that I didn't take much pictures for this.

Day 2: Final part for the day.

After couple of hours of sleep at hotel we take a small drive in local neigborhood.

Near by there was Schloss Wartensee, witch was unfortunately closed. Then we just took pictures outside.

Steap hill downwards. Hot catless system was craking nicely.

Local sheep.

Near by village Neuenkirc.

Back to the hotel. It was long day with such a small sleep.

Sometimes we had to eat. A nice little place in the mountains and from the terrace you could watch the roaring cars pass by.

And the trip goes on...

The old section of Gotthard Pass was closed because of maintaining work so we had to take new tunnel. Damn... Old section was one of those most wanted roads in Alps but no can do.

16,9km (11mls) in tube.

Towrds Austria...

Half open tunnel aka gallery tunnel

The scenery was more than ok even at ground level.

Sharp right and then you are in Austria.

Dornbirn was nice little border city in corner of Austria, near by Switzerland and German borders.

Day 4.

At the morning we left Dornbirn to the German border.

Witch was almost middle of the city. I wanted to avoid Austrian higways so I didn't need to buy Vingette.

On the German side, I immediately drove onto the autobahn and raised the travel velocity to the crimping speed.

Like allways in German autobahns the gf was horrified. The pleasant situation was when the newer R8 glued to the rear and, as the road opened, I accelerated at full power from 160kmh (100mph) to 230kmh (143mph). Audi followed, but I dare say that the driver was surprised by the power of small SLK. I let R8 pass and the old couple smiled and showed thumbs up.

With in "couple of hours" we were at hotel in northern Germany. Close to Berlin was city called Schönefed.

Hotel was quite new and verry clean. Actually whole area was resently built.

Once again hungry drove us out...

Schönefeld was close to Berlin so you could just walk in.

Nea Politia restaurant. What a night...

Day 5:

We had to start at early in the morning. We had a long drive ahead...

Crossing Poland was whole day task. Covid situation wasn't very good at Poland so we didn't want to spend any more time there as necessary. I kept 170kmh (106mph) incruise control for whole 900km (560mls) drive. Btw... Lots of British cars were driving there. A lot more than previous years. Odd...

Varsova tunnels. Been there many times...

Quicly into Lithuania where our next hotel is.

Last kilometers / miles were this kind of slowly driving.

Finlay we got into Marijampole. The view of Mercure hotels 7th floor suite.

An ouh we eat. Prizes in Lithuania are low.

Behind the hotel was an almost soviet-style clean open area.

The car stayed the night in front of the main doors. Like in JB movies.

Day 6:

While eating break fast I noticed this beatifull wall painting.

Like I wrote in the first post, driving thru Baltic countryes is full day job. I don't want to sound rude but this is so seen route.

After several hours and 625km (388mls) we finaly got into Tallinn, Estonia.

We had hour and half to next Tallinn - Helsinki ferry. Why not visit cat cafe Nurri once again. I just love cats.

19:30 ferry was almost full! All the cheap cabins were booked so we had to take a-class cabin. What a bummer...

Short drive (3hours) from Helsinki to my home city and it was 01:00am. Heres overall statistics of this road trip.
2601mls / 47:41h / 55mph / 23,5mpg
