The previous owner of my SLK320 had the camshaft position sensor replaced 11 years and 7,000 miles ago at an independent shop. The technician apparently broke the connector when replacing the sensor and used two tie wraps to secure the connector.

The 3-wire camshaft position connector consists of two parts, the connector itself and a separate cover. The part numbers are 203-545-30-28 and 000-545-25-84. Each piece costs about $3.00 and is readily available from online MB parts sources.

I was concerned that it would be difficult to remove the metal terminals in the broken connector without an extractor tool. As it turns out the plastic connector (203-545-30-28) was so brittle after 22 years of service that I was able to break off pieces of the connector with a small pair of needle nose pliers in order to disengage the terminals. It was easy to insert the terminals into the new connector. I changed the camshaft position sensor even though it was still functioning.

There is a pretty large section in the WIS that describes all kinds of connectors and how to open/handle them. Mostly using costly MB tools, but at least the name of the connector type is mentioned, so one can google for more info.

A starting point is document AR00.19-P-0120A.

It's still hard to look up the connector type, though. I was unable to find the type of the connector using @LAZARU5 photos.

I replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor connector shell in July, and also installed a new Bosch CPS to replace the one that was in the car for the last 10 years. Five weeks later the CEL light was on and my Launch x431 reported a P0341 error code. The Bosch CPS I purchased from RockAuto had a lifetime warranty so I requested a replacement.

After installing the replacement CPS I was stilling getting the P0341 error. I was also seeing some unrelated errors from the EPS module and the fresh air flap. I started suspecting some rodent cable damage after finding some acorn shells in the engine compartment.

I made a probe to insert into the terminals of the CPS connector from a fuse tap. I used a small mill file to trim the end of the fuse tap to 0.110" wide by 0.030" thick. I had intended to use this probe to test the end-to-end continuity of the three wires in the connector. However, after trying the probe in the three terminals of the CPS connector I found that position #3, the 12v lead had an almost zero friction fit compared to positions #1, and #2.

I adjusted the tension in the #3 slot and did another OBD2 scan. The cleared code did not return after running the engine. Before fixing the connector terminal, it took three attempts to start the engine. This last time the engine fired up after one try. I decided to keep the extra camshaft position sensor in case I have to diagnose this type of error again.
