Hi all,

My oil filter housing cap hex bolt is rotating freely. Last service was done at my neighborhood shop and I believe they have over tightened it. Today I had to use a breaker bar to turn it but once it started to turn I noticed the plastic part was not turning together with the bolt…
I cannot just cut it open cos I could not find a cap in stock anywhere. PN: 1131800310.

What do you suggest I try next? Warm up the engine n try tuning again? Any other caps I can order to replace this one?

Thanks
Dean

Tried many different methods but heres what did the trick:
1) Drilled 2 holes on top of the cap.
2) Insert a small breaker bar
3) Put your body weight to it n push counterclockwise
Now waiting for the new filter/cap to arrive, I ordered the taller cap cos thats the only one available PN A 112 180 07 10

I tried the taller cap. It slightly touches the hood when closed. I would be afraid of a dented hood if the engine mounts fail especially with the torque of this engine. The taller cap will screw in and operate just fine however.

Things went from bad to worse. Need to order the taller filter now… n seriously think of a way to remove the old one without damaging the threads on the housing. Any suggestions are welcome!

So do you use a tool to fit the hex to remove unit that has the oil on it. Clean off the oil and apply some J B weld or E6000 should bond to the metal and the plastic, if not a big channel locks that will open large enough. If not that, careful drill three holes 1/4 inch in the top Star pattern and put in three 1/4 steel rods. Phillips screw drive size and put in a long screwdriver and back it off. I really do not see an issue of taking it off. It has a filter under it to catch most stuff.

FCP has the correct cap in stock $23. Use a dremel type tool with a rotary burr to carefully cut like cutting a pie. Gently break it apart preserving threads on lower part. Use lower speeds for cutting plastic as heat generated will melt it making a mess.
