Inexpensive after market radio, plug and play

I thought I would add this note for anyone who may be having the same problem that I have. My radio, in the SLK 230, has gotten to the point where I can't see the screen and can't enter the security code, if I need to do so. So while I decide what I'm going to do with the radio (repair it or simply leave it out), I installed an inexpensive radio that I purchased from Amazon (a while back and now got to where I needed to use it). I chose this one as it didn't look too modern and appeared to fit the decor of the vehicle. It wasn't that difficult to install as it turned out to be a "plug and play" unit and surprisingly, sounded good, which is why I'm listing it since there wasn't any other expense involved, on my part.

Problems that I had were:
1) the high pitched humming sound that occurs from electrical interference. It took several tries but I was able to remove the interference by running a wire from the radio chassis body to a ground bolt in the engine compartment (took several tries to find one that worked) rather than look for an electronic device that would eliminate the interference since my initial plan was to repair or replace the original radio at a later time;

2) the instructions were not complete (just generalized statements), so I had to play with the controls in order to understand "what-did-what." Also;

3) the microphone for the phone portion does not work well (also if the cell phone and radio are paired through the blue tooth, then I need to lower the volume before I disconnect as it is extremely loud when it reconnects to the radio...so I don't use the phone on the radio).

However, in my case, I found these problems to be minimal since the cost of the radio was $30 and it allows me to listen to radio stations as well as a card (I have over 400 songs on a card that fits). It also has a flash drive attachment port and an auxiliary port.

There are even less expensive radios if one needs a "quick" radio, that are supposed to fit the car. Like I said, I chose this one for the looks and cost and found out that it was set up as a "plug-and-play" unit.

Hope this helps anyone that might be in the same situation, but research it if this sparks your interest and you look for systems that can be simply plugged into it, just to be sure that nothing has changed since I purchased it and that it is something that might work for you.

The radio on Amazon is listed as : FYPLAY Classic Bluetooth Car Stereo , FM Radio Receiver, Hands-Free Calling, Built-in Microphone, USB/SD/AUX Port, Support MP3/WMA/WAV, Dual Knob Audio Car Multimedia Player, Remote Control

This is what it looks like in the car: Motor vehicle Vehicle Grille Audio equipment Automotive tire

Thx,
Mike

I got this (more than a year ago) from the bay, but currently not available, link has gone...elsewhere.
It beats your 30$ and is really plug and play. No cables slising, no nothing, just click and sound on!
Downside the "frame" that locks it in place is so soft that I had to use a zip-tie to keep it together.
In fact it is a bit too powerful for the speakers made in 1998 by MB, so volume to the max is not an option.

Nice, good to know that there are other "easy" systems out there. thanks

Installed a Kenwood Media Player KMM-BT260U with a $5.99 scoche VW harness adapter yesterday in the r170 . Now I have bluetooth, alexa, usb connectivity, and hands-free telephone. Makes the car that much more enjoyable now. I am going to upgrade the 6.5" factory front speakers and tweeters with some alpine component speakers to round out the audio.
