Hello

I'm a new SLK owner and of course my daughter wants to have a ride in the car! But she isn't yet 12/13 and I have searched high and low but cannot find anywhere to buy the transponders to turn off the air bag when she is in the seat or a car seat that has the transponders in.

Help!

@CMK100 Please provide the model of SLK you have (and possibly where you are) so we can better help you so:

It's to your benefit and is much easier for members to see your car (YEAR SLK "MODEL" and nothing else) details in Vehicle Details

so the best method to update is:

click and follow the instructions FOUND HERE to update your profile.

If you have problems figuring out how to update your profile, just click

"REPORT" (3 buttons top right in this post)

and we'll help you out. Once updated, same thing: hit the report to let us know and we can relocate this thread.

Is it legal wherever you are to turn off safety-related features?

Depends on location.
Some countries REQUIRE the air bag off for babies and infant if travelling in the front seat, booster seats may also be required.

Depends on country and possibly state.

UK

Yes, children can legally sit in the front seat in the UK at any age, provided they use the correct child seat or booster seat until they are 12 years old or 135cm tall. If a rear-facing seat is used in the front, the airbag mustbe deactivated. For forward-facing seats, move the seat as far back as possible.

One other thought for countries with annual road worthyness test (Subject to local requirements, airbag may need to be operational for the test.
