16-pin socket ONLY - Xentry insists on HHT

I cannot be the only person that struggles with this - I have two Mercs that sit on the crossover and both bear only a 16-pin OBD2 socket.

The roof, central locking and a couple of other modules are non-accessible to me via Xentry and a C4 multiplex or because it screams HHT at me - but of course, this only works with a 38-pin socket.

I presume the lack of the older socket means the SLK32 at least bears a Seimens EMS and so I’d have thought DAS would read these modules, but it never tries. It can find them and clear faults using quick scan, but when I try to talk to the module, it says ‘HHT-only’ and fires up HHT-WIN on my lappy.

I cannot find anything in the forum - but I can’t be the only idiot that has struggled.

Equally, it’s entirely possible I just don’t know how to navigate the internet - and this topic has been done to death - please link me; that being the case.

Thanks for the quick replies. Will try and scan through the roof problems, Avel Du. Yes, HHT fires up and then it does nothing. I cannot see the multiplexor and cannot talk to the car. It doesn't know it's there. It feels like Xentry is using the wrong command. It's like it assumes the EMS is the oder version when I go to select the module and makes that action rather than using DAS. I even asked Peter (BenzNinja), but it's the first time I've seen him stumped.

Well that's what I would expect if the car had both the 16 pin and the 38 fitted. Some certainly had but most went to North America ... that was the rumour anyway.

Nothing came up in the roof topics that share my problem.

BazaRoberts & M4rCu5 - I understand - my version of DAS comes from BenzNinja and has just been upgraded to 2024; but I suspect it's just the last version of DAS as it doesn't seem any different to my 2021 version.

Neither 21 or 24 versions have ever worked in reading those modules. It's interesting how your 2012 year DAS and C3 worked fine through 16pin. My one being later (with seperately installed HHT) fires this up and then tells me I have the wrong cable fitted. There must be something in DAS that can be altered to have it recognise those specific modules need DAS and not HHT.

I'll go back to BenzNinja. He couldn't figure it out - but I said I'd do some research. I'm starting to lean on that my DAS is making the assumption that I have the older car. Is there anything in the startup that could change this? I put my VIN in, but it still asks a lot of questions?

DAS automatically selects HHT-WIN for certain legacy modules. R170 is old tech and has such modules, regardless of it being a PostFL, PreFL, L4 or V6 etc.

HHT-WIN is just that, HHT for WINdows rather than the Hand-Held Tester pegboard that was used way back when..

Apparently, it does not work on WinXP (and possibly Win7) 64-bit OS's?
