Sacramento Valley SLK Enthusiasts road-trip Saturday April 22nd 2023 Gold River-Hwy 16/49 - El Dorado.
Meet:
We will meet Saturday, April 22nd at 10:30am at the Bel Air Supermarket 2155 Gold Centre Ln., Rancho Cordova, CA 95670
Bel Air | Grocery Store - Golden Centre Lane, Gold River, California
Drive:
We will leave at 11:30am and head down Sunrise Blvd. and turn left on Hwy 16. We should see lots of California poppies, lupines and numerous other wildflowers and luscious verdant green hills. The drive should be absolutely beautiful & a few curves somewhere along the way. I think we will stop by a vista point along the way somewhere along Hwy 49 to the town of El Dorado. See attached map.
Lunch:
We will dine at Poor Red’s Bar-B-Q at 6221 Pleasant Valley Road, El Dorado, CA. 95623. Phone 530/622-2901.
We have been here before and they have an outdoor dining area & allow pets there. Please have cash on hand to pay for your lunch, its so much easier for the staff at the restaurant. A 20 % gratuity may be added to the bill. They aren’t taking reservations so we may have to sit in tables of four people. We will just have to take what we can get. Parking may be a challenge I believe they have parking behind the restaurant.
They are known for there world-famous cocktail drink they invented called the Gold Cadillac. The creation of the Gold Cadillac is legendary in El Dorado. Poor Red’s is located in the town of El Dorado on Pleasant Valley Road at Highway 49. Originally constructed as a weigh station for Wells Fargo, it previously operated under the name Kelly’s Bar from 1927 until 1945. Poor Red won the bar in a game of dice, and he and his wife and bookkeeper Rich Opal took it. The murals currently on the walls of Poor Red’s were installed in the 1940’s. They depict former employees and patrons, including their dog, which used to sit out front. It is rumored his dog ran for office, but he lost.
