Hi guys, been driving as my daily driver for 14 years a 2000 slk 230. I also have a 2014 c300 sport version. I am 68 years old and not sure if I should pull the trigger on a 171 slk55. My c300 is very comfortable, slk230 is very noisy in the cabin. I hear the 171 noise has improved over the 170. I know getting in and out is slow for an old guy, is the amg seat nicer in a 171 amg? (confused old guy). Oh PS: probably getting a 2021 AMG glc 43 for my young wife very soon : unrelated just a note.

I have had 2 SLK320s R170, 1 SLK350 R172 and now the SLK55 AMG P30 R171. I and she who shall be listened to are both 82 and got this one at age 77. Age is not a factor in enjoyment.
Top tip. Program the seats to button 2. When you get out move the seat back manually as far as it goes before exiting. When you get back in your hand will fall more or less naturally where button 2 falls naturally to hand. Push it and the seat returns to your driving position. Poor mans EasyExit/Entry. MB programs the seats in our GLA that limits travel rearward on the EasyExit/Entry to "prevent crushing the knees of the passenger rear seat" but manually you are free to crush away. We set M3 to move the seat back further than the feature allows. We push that to exit and we each have a memory setting in the others.
Go for it!!

Just to add to the encouragement:
"Life is to short to drive a boring car"....!!

With R171's the optional perspex wind deflectors is worth ever penny of the ~£450+ they occasionally come up for on eBay:
Sensitive content, not recommended for those under 18
Car Automotive Exterior Convertible Steering wheel Car door

At ~70mph, they do an amazing job at reducing turbulence in the cabin. This is always a good negotiating point, if looking at a R171 that doesn't have one.

I just sold my 2006 for a 2014. Love them both and the 06 can be had for a bargain. They are super fun to drive. I would've kept my old one, but it was really showing it's age. I did try and find a lower mileage example without much luck.

Get the 55... Better sound, better accelleration, better brakes, better dampers, and better seats than any other R171, even if you don't like it, the example you're contemplating purchasing is so ridiculously low mileage for it's age it's bound to appreciate as time goes by. Worst case, you tried a new car and made some money, best case, you find something that tickles your soul. And FWIW, my young girlfriend will absolutely not let me sell mine, so this is one of those rare cars where the woman in your life will very quickly become an advocate for the car, rather than a critic of it.

You have that right mate. Make the best of every day and enjoy our toys. The attached picture I took last year at the Oak Bay Collector Car Festival in Oak Bay BC outside Victoria. Our MBCA chapter participates every year. The SLK55 on the left is SLicK, my car. The sign on the story across the road says it all.

As Jeff noted I was replying to Gene Gorman in the context he, as am I, driving a 2009 MY SLK55AMG of which - according to MBC - there were 292 (Jeff has 293) built and there were only 19 imported into Canada of that model year one of which is shown on the left of the above picture.
That said a friend how has a 2006 SLK55 AMG cannot get collector plates in BC because according to the agency who controls them there were over 1900 built in MY 2006 which aligns with Lomg's data for that MY 1931 Jeff your data appears to be the US imports only but then again do I accept what MBC told me re 2009MY or Long's number of 227.
