Sorry for my ignorance, not a car show sort of person. Just noticed a 'things to do' in Monterey during the annual car week, on Thursday there appears to be an all german car show. Sponsors seem to be the Audi, BMW and Mercedes national car clubs.
Looking under the MBCA tab, there are a number of judging categories including several for roadsters up to 2002 year. So perhaps 20 year old & older. I didn't see R170 listed as a category.
Maybe this is common knowledge for SLK owners, but if not might be a fun day for those nearby.
