Custom Antenna Question

Hi, I'm looking to make a custom antenna shaped like a palm tree for a 2006 SLK 350/ R171. After some google searches, the idea seems to be a bit more involved than machining a new antenna out of billet aluminum due to how the keyfob works with the antenna.

With the above in mind:
What material can I make the antenna out of to not interfere with the key fob function?

Is there a 2D cad drawing of the OEM antenna so I can reference it for the base?

Thanks in advance

Whiplash base, aka eye poker (longer), or stubby base?

Catching on the roof is a good point though.

Perhaps something to slip over an original antenna once roof is in required position with an added fixing.

Possibly like the flags some folks add.

Palm tree decor has always been popular here in South Carolina, so I get it. My mailbox flag was a palmetto palm years ago. But I am going to be the negative nellie on this one. Besides your concern over radio reception, I would be concerned about theft or vandalism and the potential for wind noise.
I suggest installing a stubby and getting a palm tree sticker for the corner of your rear glass.

In Canada it is the snowman look. UK has the umbrella look. Germany, bratwurst. France, baguette.
And in Florida it would probably be a flamingo or a tiny palm with sunglasses.

Joking aside, that’s exactly why I’d be tempted to make it as a removable slip-over piece rather than replacing the antenna assembly. Easier to take off before a wash, road trip, or roof cycling test, and much less painful if reception or clearance turns out to be an issue.
