Hi – Yes did it in September 2022 in my
SLK. Was very lucky as weather was perfect and not so busy.
We (me and wife) did it over 10 days so we could take our time.
We did it CCW so started in Inverness and headed up the East coast.
We booked accommodation in advance…recommended especially in summer.
We also did Isle of Sky but I’d skip it as not so picturesque.
Tip we read was to fill up if tank reaches ½ full. We had no issues but one garage told us their tanks are not so big hence in busy times they can run out.
Also – there is a mobile tyre specialist which will cover the NC500 – I think they were based in Inverness – but worth it I think as no room in boot to hold punctured tyre…well as least we had none.
I had a
dash cam and video’d it all. We had no issues but I think a good idea in case of accident as many blind bends and crests. On single track roads we did 25-40mph normally unless a clear view but still probably 50mph max.
Unless you want to visit John o Groats you could skip East coast and take A836 to Tongue as we loved the drive around Loch Eriboll (though a bit cloudy when we did it) but the West coast in sunny weather is stunning.
2 places I can thoroughly recommend are:
Old School at Inshegra
https://www.oldschoolhotel.co.uk/ not many rooms and if you want en-sute book early. Best food we had all trip.
Ardvreck House just north of Ullapool. Pricy but stunning location and great breakfast. Downside is no other meals….so you need to go into Ullapool….we had a poor meal at Ullapool in a restaurant….I’d stick to fish and chips at Seafood Shack.
A great coffee/lunch stop is Osgoods Café Inverewe Gardens, Achnasheen IV22 2LG though there are lots along the route.
Good luck and I hope the weather is great for you.
Applecross.
