The first time I tried doing this it took me over an hour. Other wheel took 10 minutes. Thought I would detail the steps to make it easier for the next person. Its a pain if you don't have the right tools. Also wear eye protection. The springs can and will shoot all around. My old brake shoes were still fine, but I had to loosen the brake shield to get to the control arm bolts. To get to the shield, you have to take the shoes out. A new set of OEM shoes and springs were only about $30, so I replaced them.
Step 1 - Clean the brake shield, put some brake grease on the nubbies
Step 2 - Put the top spring in the shoes. Its almost impossible to get the spring in when the shoes are in
Step 3 - Put the little side holder springs in. They have a hook, so you need to compress the spring and just wiggle around to get them in. Make sure the car is in neutral because you have to get holes lined up. NOTE - DO NOT press the brake pedal in when the calipers are off the rotors. Put something in the calipers, else you will blow them the calipers out.
Step 4 - Put the bottom spring in. Need a hook tool or some sort. This spring is a big pain
Step 5 - Put the adjuster in on the top. I used some large snap ring pliers. It made things so much easier.
Step6 - Move the rotor around to get a hole lined up and make adjustments. I like to adjust the shoes up until I can feel just a bit of drag. Couple of clicks are enough. Once both wheels are done, test the e brake and adjust again if needed.
