It's that time of year to pay special attention to your weather seals.

I've not found anything that even comes close to Gummi Pflege for protecting them

Top pics R170, bottom pdf R171 but both models have similar if not exact lube points

DO NOT USE WD-40!!! IT IS A SOLVENT. NOT A LUBRICANT
*

CAUTION: Whether opening or closing the roof to lubricate, ensure when done, that you let the roof continue in whatever direction it was moving when you started to finish its cycle.

Holding roof open

I had a long running issue of my roof creaking on our terrible UK roads. Tried Gummi numerous times and no joy.

Bit the bullet and ordered Krytox and spend about 1.5 hours coating every single seal, including door mirrors and the little trim that runs down the A-pillar. Took it for a drive afterwards and oh my word ! No creaks, nothing at all. Feels like a car with a solid roof not a convertible !

That krytox stuff is AMAZING and I still have loads left should the issue ever raise it's head again. Cannot recommend Krytox enough, worth every penny imo.

Thanks, was looking for advice on preferred type of product. Ordered Spray white lithium grease and gummi for under £10 / $15 from Amazon UK for both. Another job....... This project car is taking these small mounts quite frequently 🙄😂

New Excide secondary battery to be fitted this weekend. £50 - $75. It's only (pension) money.

Hi - decided to Gummi seals and WD40 lithium grease the car today. Car is garaged all the time but taken out on a nice day and used for touring in the summer months.

Anyhow - did the gummi bit then got out the lithium grease and tried to press top with no joy. Decided to take to over to the garden and gave it a good press.....bloody thing jammed open and grease going all over the place...just glad it was not on the car. Quickly got a bin bag and put it in there until it stopped. Its only 2 years old and only used for SLK.

So I need to buy another...I read WD40 Lithium Grease is considered the best for SLK roof hinges....is this still the concensus?
I have some WD40 silicone spray and wondered if that was just as good/better?

Will google some more and read this post.....but just wondered on latest concensus.

Now off with hot water and something to clean up the mess.

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for advice.
Just read all posts here - mostly about gummi but post #476 by LeonardoDaBenz expalins WD silicone is no good - thanks.

So will buy more WD40 Lithium Grease spray.

Another post I read in here suggested gummi has a shelf life if 2 years......bottle I have must be 10 years old...so will buy some new too though it looks fine and seals are good....but I'll buy new anyhow.

Hoping for some sunny days even if cold (not freezing) I'm happy to take it for a spin even with roof down though I do get some funny looks when its dark with the roof down....rather nice....heating on and stars in the sky!

im a tad confused on the picture of lube products... I see what appears to be I Lube, but cannot find that anywhere online. what do you recommend for door latches and heavy load joints?

those reference the locations in the pdf - not important
